TTE exports UK process operations and maintenance expertise

The TTE Technical Training Group has secured a prestigious new contract to provide skills development for Libyan technicians working for global oil production company, Wintershall a division of chemicals giant BASF.

Delivered by TTE Libya, a new joint-stock company arrangement between TTE and a Libyan partner enterprise, this five-year project has led to the creation of up to seventeen new jobs.

TTE Libya will undertake the training and assessment of Libyan nationals, as part of the Technicians’ on-going professional development, which will lead to them achieving international competency standards expected of the Oil & Gas sector.

Delivery of the project, in particular candidate assessments, will take place at Wintershall’s oil production facilities in the Libyan Desert benefiting from TTE’s extensive experience of on-site training and assessment. TTE is undertaking a detailed skills analysis of the existing workforce prior to the implementation of competency assessment.

TTE is globally-recognised as one of the leading technical training specialists for the process industry. The organisation works closely with industry to provide skills, qualifications and competencies to a wide range of technicians and engineers all of which can be tailored to client needs.

John Taylor Group Business Development Manager said “TTE is well-known for its process and engineering apprenticeships in the North East of England however little is known of the fact that we have been spearheading the export of Process Operations and Maintenance training into International markets since the turn of the millennium.

“TTE now operate practical training facilities in Azerbaijan with a JV partner along with a centre in Ghana and another in Oman. We are delighted to have been selected by another major company, in this case Wintershall, to provide technician skills training.”

Alongside its UK and international training provision, TTE provides Advanced Apprenticeships backed by industrial sponsors. As a charitable organisation, TTE reinvests all of its profits from its UK and International commercial activities to help fund the training of future generations of technicians in the North East.

The organisation has, for more than a decade, welcomed Libyan Technicians to its UK training centre, but this contract with Wintershall is the second major in-country project to be secured by TTE.

Wintershall is one of the world’s leading oil & gas exploration and production companies. Its activities cover key global regions spanning from Europe to the North Sea into Russia’s Permafrost regions and the South American steppe.

The company has been operating in the North African desert since the late 1950s. It resumed production in Libya in late 2011 and is currently delivering in the region of 80,000 barrels per day.

In addition, Wintershall is currently cooperating with the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC) and the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) to build a new 55-km-long oil pipeline to connect the Wintershall concession, C96, with Amal field, which will transport crude oil to the export town Ras Lanuf.

Steve Grant, Managing Director of The TTE Technical Training Group, said: “TTE has always had a strong working relationship with Libyan industry, which was interrupted by the political unrest that took place in the country over recent years. However, since the regime change, the country has a far more positive political and economic outlook, which presents good opportunities for TTE.

“Establishing TTE Libya and winning this prestigious contract with Wintershall has enabled our organisation to take its first substantial steps in the market and further expand the reach of our international technical training and assessment provision.

“UK technical skills development is highly-respected around the world. In particular, TTE, which has become a leading exporter of technical training, is well-placed to meet the requirements of industry. From our location in one of the UK’s traditional industrial heartlands we continue to play a key role in the development of the workforce, which enables TTE to deliver internationally-renowned in-country training.”
