Harrogate techies reinvent online dating
A pair of Harrogate IT high fliers are two of the brains behind a new dating service that has taken the London social scene by storm.
TrueView.me is a new smart phone app that claims to reinvent the dating game by showing that static, high cost services are archaic, expensive and unhelpful. Uniquely, it allows users to create dynamic, evolving profiles by logging the things they do in their daily lives
It was started in a bedroom by a team of three: Andrew Ibbotson and Matt Verity, old friends from Harrogate who swapped ideas for breakthrough online services and courted investors together and Damian Mitchell, Matt’s former colleague.
Users log the details they want, when they want, to build a profile that is a true reflection of their personalities. They can list the things they like, don’t like, favourite activities, recipes, films etc.
Self-confessed failed online dater Andrew, said: ’Traditional online services throw out hundreds of results, many of which are out of date or even fake. Subscribers are forced to sell themselves rather than just be themselves.
“Shoehorned into a narrow, restrictive template form, they can’t tell their story, reveal who they really are. TrueView lets users build a true representation of their personality that grows every time people log the things they do, recommending others with similar interests.”
One of the 19 startups invested in by Telefonica’s Wayra academy, TrueView has gone from strength-to-strength after securing a second round of funding. It was listed by Startups 100 as one of most exciting, creative and disruptive new businesses in the UK today.
