Henderson's gives a helping hand to professional golfer
Henderson Insurance Brokers Leeds has given its financial backing to a young and talented golfer, as she embarks on her career as a professional sportswoman.
The Yorkshire-based insurance broker has sponsored Holly Clyburn to help with her travelling costs to tournaments, pay for equipment and to support her at this vital time in her career.
Holly, 22, most recently won the Deloitte Ladies Open in Amsterdam in May by three strokes, one of the most coveted championships on the Ladies European Tour gaining her two years playing exemption with an automatic entry into the 2013 Ladies British Open in St Andrews in 2013.
She is also benefitting from having full status on the Ladies European Tour and has had the pleasure of playing with the likes of Laura Davies CBE after turning professional in October 2012.
Holly, who is from Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, has been playing golf since she was seven and started taking lessons when she was 10. At 13, Holly was selected to the England performance squad, where she competed in both Brazil and the USA in later years.
Her father, Paul, is a keen golfer who plays off a handicap of three, has been a big influence on Holly’s career by helping her get into the sport from a young age. After winning the Curtis Cup with the Great Britain and Ireland squad in Scotland, Holly decided to turn professional, a decision which has paid off after her win in Holland.
Holly said: “The hardest part about turning professional can be the funding because playing golf is very expensive. The sponsorship from Henderson Insurance Brokers is wonderful and has been a massive help for me as it will go towards my travel costs and without sponsorship none of this would be possible, so I am very grateful.
“I am finding professional golf enjoyable because I am getting to play with golfers such as Laura Davies who is a legend in our sport and I am doing something which I really enjoy.”
The sponsorship, which represents a significant sum of money, will come in good use as Holly has a demanding upcoming schedule, as she travels to Madrid to compete in the Spanish Open, followed by the Ladies European Masters in Buckinghamshire later this month.
Joe Henderson, CEO of Henderson Insurance Brokers, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support Holly in this way and we hope that the sponsorship money will be of great use to her as she looks to progress in her career.
“We would like to wish Holly all the best with her golfing career, and I’m sure she will go from strength to strength after her impressive win at the Deloitte Ladies Open.”
