Top ICE prize for Durham student

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has presented a Durham University graduate with a prestigious award.

Henry Ward was given the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Prize 2013 at the end of his Master of Engineering degree in which he specialised in civil engineering.

Each year, ICE North East presents the award to one Durham University student for their achievements in the penultimate and final years of the four year course.

Originally from County Down, Northern Ireland, Henry is now preparing to start work as a graduate engineer at Mott McDonald in the Ports, Coastal and Offshore Subdivision in Croydon. He was attracted to Durham’s Engineering course due to the clear career route it presented.

Penny Marshall, Interim Director of the Institution of Civil Engineers North East, said: “The ICE Prize has always identified some truly exceptional talent in the field of engineering, and this year is no different.

“Henry is clearly an outstanding student and was awarded a first class honours degree by Durham University. I have no doubt he will be an asset to our industry as he begins his journey into the employed world of engineering, and we wish him well for his career.”

Henry added: “I am delighted to have been awarded the ICE prize – it is invaluable to my CV and I’m really pleased that the institution has recognised my ability and enthusiasm for the engineering profession.
