Manchester Airport hail a successful summer

Passenger numbers are continuing to rise at Manchester Airport, with 2.1m visitors during June 2013, according to figures released on Wednesday.

This was a 4.1% rise in comparison with June 2012, and marks the 13th consecutive month of passenger number improvements.

Statistics released by Manchester Airport came after a deal with EgyptAir to open a new flight path between the “Northern Gateway” and Egypt’s capital, Cairo.

This agreement has lead to a 9.4% rise in international scheduled traffic, while in June TAP Portugal announced an increase of weekly flights to Lisbon.

Manchester Airport said its focus on the low cost sector has had a positive impact on its success, as the third stage of the “Fly Manchester” campaign goes ahead to promote the city as the place to fly from for budget flights.

Airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair, Monarch, Jet2.com, Germanwings and Norwegian continue to grow at Manchester, and passenger performance is continuing on a positive trend.

Virgin Atlantic also announced during June that they would be offering 30,000 extra return seats to Orlando from Manchester Airport in summer 2014.

Ken O’Toole, chief commercial officer for Manchester Airport owners, MAG, said: “We’ve seen over a year of continued month-on-month growth now and the next few months will provide an additional boost as over 14m passengers are expected to use Manchester Airport during the summer.

“We’re entering the full swing of the summer season and are expecting a further surge in passengers once the schools break up as millions of people fly away for a well-deserved break.”

84,000 passengers are expected to pass through Manchester Airport on Friday 23rd August, which will be their busiest day of the summer, which is 4,000 more than the airport’s highest daily figure in 2012.
