Esh Group take majority stake in Scottish consultancy

Durham-based construction firm, Esh Group, have acquired a majority stake in Scottish environmental consultancy, Remedios.

Remedios, a spin-out from the University of Aberdeen specialise in sustainable brownfield remediation and are recognised as a world leader.

The firm use diagnostic software to identify and most cost-effective and sustainable approach to managing contaminated sites.

Remedios shareholder and chairman, Gavin Black, said: “We are delighted that we are now working with Esh Group and its construction companies. With Esh Group’s access to market expertise we can fulfil Remedios’ potential - building on our many years’ experience of cleaning up contaminated sites across the UK and overseas.

“Our continuing strong links with the University of Aberdeen, which has developed the cutting edge biosensor technology, together with our highly specialist staff gives Remedios a significant commercial advantage. We continue to develop new technologies for the UK and international markets in response to a globally changing environment.”

Brian Manning chief executive of Esh Group continued: “Our acquisition of Remedios enables Esh Group to widen its diverse offering to existing and new customers throughout the construction sector.

“We can now deliver a full service range to brownfield development sites: desktop appraisals, site investigations, quantitative risk assessments, determination of clean-up targets, clean-up itself , putting in the infrastructure, constructing the structures or building and delivering proactive and reactive maintenance services to the occupant thereafter.

“We believe this acquisition highlights Esh Group’s forward-looking approach, expanding into new ventures that complement existing Group activities.”

Square One Law acted for Esh Group on the transaction and Brian Manning added:“We were very pleased with the attention to detail and the service we received throughout the acquisition process.”

Conor McKernan has been appointed general manager of Remedios and he will work closely with the Remedios team in Aberdeen which is led by Professor Graeme Paton a founder of the business and a highly regarded specialist in the field of intelligent solutions in environmental assessment and remediation.
