Delivery specialist announces Tamworth and Bradford expansion

Leeds-based Hermes, the consumer delivery specialist in the UK, has announced that it is shortly to open new hubs in Tamworth and Bradford to complement its existing sites.

This investment in operational infrastructure comes as the company expects to handle an expected 15 per cent increase in parcel volumes to 187 million in 2013.

Hermes has also revealed that new depots will be introduced in Bridgwater, Enfield and Liverpool, and existing sites in Warrington, Birmingham, Weybridge and Perth will be refurbished and extended.

The new Tamworth hub has 336,500 sq ft of warehouse and office space with 47 dock level loading doors.

The facility, located adjacent to the A5 with excellent links to the motorway network via the M42, will operate two automated parcel sorters to provide capacity for 300,000 parcels per day.

The temporary Bradford hub will be used to offer additional resource during the forthcoming peak period. The 50,000 sq ft facility will include a machine sorter to provide daily capacity to process 60,000 parcels.

Gary Winter, sales and marketing director of Hermes UK, commented: “We are never standing still, so we are always looking and planning ahead to ensure we have the necessary infrastructure and resources in place to meet the precise demands of our retail customers during peak times in 2013.

“We possess the necessary buffer within our network to effectively handle any unexpected surges in volumes during busy periods.”
