Freelance PR Consultant shortlisted for three CIPR awards

A Newcastle-based PR consultant has been shortlisted in three different categories in the prestigious Chartered Institute of Public Relations Pride Awards 2013.

Former journalist, radio producer and CIPR member Kate Slater entered: Best Campaign under £10,000; Best Healthcare Campaign; and Outstanding Freelance PR Consultant - competing against much larger organisations in the first two categories - and has been shortlisted for all three.

The CIPR PRide Awards recognise the outstanding talents and achievements of public relations practitioners across the UK’s regions and nations. They are the most prestigious and rigorous awards of their kind.

Kate Slater PR and Marketing was established in 2009 and has generated regional, national and international recognition for many North East businesses and organisations including Kinesio UK, Centre for Life, George F White, The Hideaway Experience, St John Ambulance North East, The Wood Heating Company and Dere Street Homes. The company also has tourism, property and healthcare clients across the UK in Dundee, London and Devon.

The company delivers targeted press communications, social media and fully integrated marketing campaigns that bring proven results, positive awareness and increased business to clients.

Kate Slater devised a PR campaign for North East based Kinesio UK (brightly coloured therapeutic taping beloved of athletes) that saw it catapulted to global attention, shifted public opinion and has led to the company doubling its staff.

A Kate Slater integrated travel PR campaign for The Ducket, (five star Northumbrian stone tower) started in 2010 has seen it 99% booked for three years with a 700% return on PR investment and featured in over 53 national and regional media features. The Ducket also won Britain’s Most Unique Retreat award in 2012.

Kate Slater says: “I am so pleased and excited to have entered three Chartered Institute of PR awards in 2013 and been shortlisted for all of them! Considering I’ve been competing against much larger organisations, I’m even more pleased!. I am passionate about the amazing value of good PR and strive to achieve great results for all of my clients. It’s now fantastic that my own business has achieved this great recognition in its own right.”

Commenting on this year’s shortlist announcement, CIPR President Sue Wolstenhome FCIPR, said:

“The CIPR PRide Awards celebrate the very best in public relations from across the UK’s regions and nations. This year’s entries were all of an incredibly high standard, highlighting the industry-leading work that is taking place right across the UK. I would like to congratulate all of those who have been shortlisted for an award; their success demonstrates their exemplary achievements in such a thriving profession, and recognises the impact they have made in their region and beyond.”

The winners of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Pride Awards North East will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 3 October 2013 at the Gateshead Hilton.
