The MBA Programme Philosophy

Studying for a Newcastle Business School MBA will challenge you and your outlook.

The overall aim of the programme is to develop your managerial and leadership capabilities so that you can help your organisation become more effective and efficient in a rapidly changing, complex and knowledge based economy. The philosophy of the programme derives from the principles of reflective practice and experiential learning. As a Newcastle Business School MBA student you will diagnose problems, research and retrieve information and apply insight from powerful conceptual models to develop and evaluate solutions. By the end of the programme, you will have become a reflective and strategic thinker with an international outlook and a body of contemporary knowledge in skills relating to business and organisations, organisational research and change management.

Our Approach

Delivered by a team of academic staff with management and leadership experience from a range of sectors, the MBA uses a variety of learning approaches including management investigations, workshop activities, case discussions and practical exercises. Studies are supported by a range of face to face or on-line lecture and tutorial activities and work related assessment. Find out more about the programme structure.

Attendance

The taught component of the programme is delivered over two 15- week semesters per year - September to January and February to June (dates vary). Part-time students are expected to attend one afternoon and evening a week, normally from 12.00/1.00pm to 6.30/7.00pm. Normally Year 1 is on a Tuesday and Year 2 is on a Thursday.

As a professional international business school at the heart of the North East region, there is a diverse student population of 4,000 students on-campus, approximately 1500 studying at partner institutions overseas and an academic and professional support staff of 200.
