New Teesside homes get go-ahead

Planning permission has been given to a new development to build more than 100 new homes which is expected to bring £9m into a local economy.

Stockton Council’s Planning Committee has granted planning permission for 117 new homes in the Parkfield area of the town.

Tees Valley Housing submitted the planning application for the affordable two, three and four-bed homes on a site bounded by Dovecot Street, Hartington Road, St Bernard’s Road and Worthing Street.

They will include new houses, bungalows and apartments which will be available for a variety of low cost housing options including affordable rent and shared ownership, as well as a small park.

Building work is likely to start early next year and will take around three years to complete.

Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, Councillor Steve Nelson, said: “I’m delighted that the next phase of the Parkfield regeneration scheme is moving forward.

“Not only will it provide much needed affordable housing for residents of Stockton Borough, it will significantly benefit the nearby businesses on Yarm Road including hairdressers, a carpet shop and convenience stores and others which are all services that the hundreds of residents who move into the homes will require.

“It will also bring nearly £9m into the Borough’s economy through the developer and its supply chains as well as providing training and apprenticeship opportunities for our young people.

“The housing regeneration scheme is supporting Stockton Town Centre’s multi-million pound regeneration by giving more of our residents the option of living within walking distance of a vibrant town centre where they can easily take advantage of its growing range of independent shops, top-class events and specialist markets.

“The town’s on-going transformation is really exciting and housing regeneration schemes like this have such an important part to play in that.”

Stockton Council, Tees Valley Housing and the Homes and Communities Agency are working together on the scheme.

It is the second phase of the Parkfield regeneration programme which has already seen Dunelm Homes build a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Nursery Gardens.
