Residents check progress of new Gentoo retirement village

Future residents of a retirement village currently being constructed in Doxford Park, Sunderland, recently had the chance to visit the site to check on the progress of their future home.

Fred Dymond, 71, and Reuben Caile, 86, currently live across the road from the site in Croftside House, and the two gentlemen paid a visit to through the plans and ask any questions to Gentoo staff. The two gentlemen have been involved in the project from the beginning and, along with other Croftside residents, previously named the extra care home Haddington Vale and the adjoining bungalows Knightswood.

Included in the plans for the £11.6 million development is the state of the art extra care facility as well as 40 extra care apartments, 40 older persons apartments and 14 bungalows.

Managing Director of Gentoo Construction, Allan Thompson said: “It’s been important for Gentoo to keep the residents involved as much as possible during this project, from helping to choose the interiors to choosing the name.

“It is our aim to provide the best housing we can, with state of the art energy saving facilities so that residents can look forward to moving in and enjoying life in their new homes.”

Haddington Vale and Knightswood will include a range of communal facilities, including a hairdressers, residents lounge, games room and fully landscaped gardens, together with a specially designed Dementia Garden.
