‘Newcomer’ Chris wins national risk management award

Coast & Country’s Assurance Manager Chris Walker has won a prestigious national award for his risk management work.

Chris was named Risk Management Newcomer of the Year at a national awards ceremony, held in June at the Palace Hotel in Manchester. The event, which recognises innovation and excellence in public risk management, is held by Alarm, a major public risk management organisation in the UK.

He was presented with a crystal vase by BBC One Show presenter Lucy Seigle and, as part of his prize, will represent Coast & Country at the annual PRIMA conference, held in Long Beach, California, next June.

Chris said: “I love my job. I’m a pedantic person and so I am ideally suited to the painstaking attention to detail that is required for this career.

“I was immensely honoured to receive national recognition among my peers. The award, which is for people with less than three years’ experience, also reflects the fantastic help and support I have had from colleagues and other managers at Coast & Country.”

Chris is responsible for the risk assessment, prevention and management policies and to ensure they are regularly reviewed to meet changing needs and circumstances. The aim is to prevent potential issues from happening or, if they do arise, ensuring that disruption is kept to a minimum, and that contingency plans are in place.

Iain Sim, Coast & Country Chief Executive, said: “In the 18 months Chris has been with the Company, he has proved to be a real asset. His attention to detail is second-to-none and thanks to his knowledge and expertise we have been able to further enhance our risk management policies.

“Chris has introduced new mechanisms for improved communication, reporting, training and understanding, which have embedded an even stronger culture of risk management at all levels of the company.”

Mr Sim added: “Chris’ work is vitally important to our Company as we strive for excellence, efficiency and the highest possible standards of assurance. His winning of this prestigious award is well-deserved.”

Chris and his team of six focus on strategic, operational, development and project issues at Coast & Country, which is one of the largest regeneration and housing companies in the North East.
