Ellesmere Port contractors investing over £1m to expand

Ellesmere Port civil engineering contractor D Morgan is investing more than £1m in new plant as it seeks to expand its business base.

The firm, which already emplys more than 150 staff, has spent £500,000 on five new 22 tonne excavators, and expects to add another six more of the machines this month. D Morgan specialises in civil engineering works and also hires out equipment to the construction industry,

Greater fuel efficiency, driving down costs, makes the new equipment more competitive. The company sees this as a key element in their efforts to attract new contracts in such a highly price-senstive market sector.

D Morgan is currently providing engineering and earthworks services to the £17 Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College project in Liverpool. The college is being built by Willmott Dixon Construction on the former Long Lane council depot in Fazakerley, as part of the wider regeneration of the area.

The scheme is part of the Liverpool School Investment Programme, devised as a rescue package following the scrapping of Wave Six of Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project.

It is the second such undertaking for the firm, who previously carried out similar work on the city’s new Notre Dame Catholic College for the Arts.
