Major investment into IT Equipment inspires learning

A Gateshead secondary school which caters for pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties has invested thousands of pounds into its ITC suite to help empower students to gain the best qualifications they can.

Furrowfield School has enlisted the help of leading independent computer retailer, COMPUTER orBIT to provide state-of-the art computer technology to assist its students’ education.

Head teacher Steve Thursby said: “Computing and IT is such a huge part of the world today and children are born into a very technical age. We are dedicated to assisting pupils to achieve their fullest potential in all aspects of development and their progress has definitely been improved by the use of the investment we have put in to the ICT suite to aid their learning.”

Committed to working with local businesses and within the education sector, COMPUTER orBIT has provided tablets, laptops, printers and Apple Macs, along with Microsoft Office software to the school. In addition, it has enhanced its security measures by installing anti-virus software and provided a trouble-shooting helpline.

COMPUTER orBIT’s account manager for education Mushtaq Ahmid said: “Furrowfield School is a very forward thinking institution and understands the needs of its students to help them progress to fulfil their potential. We are passionate about working with local businesses not only to support others in our region, but for the convenience that it brings them in having us close by, providing a personal service and support to meet their needs.

“We operate a remote service for schools and colleges and provide full MOTs for their equipment to ensure that they always have the best quality and clean software.”

The school has also revamped its office for staff and created a greener school preferring to use study plans and teaching notes online as well as synchronising diaries through tablets.

Mr Thursby continued: “We are very grateful for the service that COMPUTER orBIT provides – because they are local they are always to hand and act as a fully outsourced IT department which not only assists the students, but our office staff too. We aim to grow this relationship further to ensure our students get the very best in what they need to assist them with their studies.”

With ‘Good’ Ofsted reports, Furrowfield School is also utilising the latest technology in the ICT suite further by offering evening literacy classes for parents of the pupils from September.
