£15k bridge work to kick-start Teesdale improvements

The first phase of work to improve part of the Teesdale area of Stockton Borough will begin next week.

Middlesbrough-based T & T Group will start work on a £15,000 project to revitalise Anchorage Bridge.

Stockton Council recently adopted some of the privately owned areas of land close to the canals and river between Victoria Bridge and Anchorage Mews which had fallen into disrepair.

It has meant that the council can begin improving and maintaining these areas to provide a better environment for people to live and work.

While the bridge is painted and repaired the route may need to be closed to pedestrians for a number of days. Notices will be displayed on the bridge in advance of any closures.

The bridge works will last around three weeks.

Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith, said: “I’m delighted that we are now able to progress with our works to improve this part of Teesdale for both businesses and residents.

“Local ward councillors, past and present, have worked with their communities for many years to highlight the environmental issues in Teesdale. The fact that work is now under way to address these issues is testament to their tireless work and I would like to thank them for that.”

The bridge renovation is the first of a series of planned improvements which will also include repair and maintenance of street lights and footpaths.

New street furniture will be installed and trees will also be planted to enhance the environment for people who work and live in the area.
