Top professional qualification for probate solicitor
Kate Maybury solicitor at Raworths, Harrogate has been awarded full membership of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a worldwide professional association, which promotes education and high professional standards among its members. STEP conducts rigorous examinations over a four year period before admitting practitioners to its 18,500-strong membership across 80 jurisdictions.
Kate joins fellow Raworths’ solicitor Maureen Gilroy-Thomas, who is also STEP-qualified. Her specialisms are the preparation of wills, providing inheritance tax advice, applications to the Court of Protection, Lasting Powers of Attorney and the administration of trusts and estates.
Partner and head of probate, wills and trusts at Raworths, Selena Hinds, is confident that the high professional standards to which STEP adheres are very beneficial to clients seeking advice.
She said: “The firm now has two STEP-qualified solicitors on our team and one more is currently undergoing the rigorous procedure to achieve full membership of the Society. We are proud to be able to offer our clients top quality advice from solicitors who are highly qualified in their area of law. Where such important matters as estate planning are concerned, it is always best to check the qualifications of the professionals guiding you.”
STEP’s ranks include lawyers, accountants, trust specialists and other practitioners in this area and its members help families plan for their futures. They specialise in a wide range of activities, from drafting wills to more complex issues surrounding international families, protection of the vulnerable, succession planning, family businesses and philanthropic giving.
The Society also helps to improve public understanding of the issues families face in these areas.
