Retirement specialist agrees land deal at Skipton development

Retirement apartments are to add a new dimension to Rushbond Group’s Belle Vue Square scheme in Skipton after a deal was agreed to sell the land to a specialist developer.

Part of a 0.69 acre site at Belle Vue Square has been sold to the UK’s leading developer of retirement apartments, McCarthy & Stone, which will start construction work on its ‘later living’ scheme this summer.

McCarthy & Stone, which acquired the site with planning permission for a significant but undisclosed sum, is to develop 21 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom, secure, low-maintenance apartments each with their own balcony for sale to the over 60s.

When complete, the multi-million pound later-living scheme will also have a guest suite, homeowners’ communal lounge, house manager and a roof terrace with scenic views across nearby countryside.

Property development and investment company, Rushbond Group, has re-developed the main site of Belle Vue Square, an historic former textile factory built in 1828, in a £25m scheme to create more than 150,000 sq ft of commercial, leisure and residential space and has already attracted Craven District Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Medac Healthcare Plc and Holt Doctors.

Rushbond Group managing director, Jonathan Maud, says: “We’re pleased to announce the sale of this land at Belle Vue Square to McCarthy & Stone.

“The deal represents an important new stage in the redevelopment of this attractive historic textile site which is creating new office space and homes all within walking distance of Skipton town centre and its many amenities.”

In a second deal, Rushbond Group has also sold part of the Belle Vue Square site to Ilkley-based Burley Developments for a proposed mixed-use retail and residential scheme which is to go before Craven District Council planners this summer.
