Apprenticeship Pop Up shop for SMEs

SMEs in County Durham are being invited to an Apprenticeship ‘Pop Up Shop’ in the region this week.

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) is organising the two days in Newton Aycliffe – the day after GCSE and A-level results.

It’s an opportunity for young people to get advice and guidance on local Apprenticeship opportunities.

But local SMEs are also invited to go along to see what kind of help and support is available to them.

The Pop Up Shops, on Friday August 16 and August 23, are being organised by Simon Bowker, business development manager for the National Apprenticeship Service, at the Pioneering Care community shop in Newton Aycliffe town centre.

He said: “For those young people approaching the critical GCSE and A-Level exam results period, the Pop Up Shops are perfect timing - especially as Apprenticeships are fast becoming the norm for young people seeking an alternative route to a career than via university.

“They are a great way for them to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification, setting them on the road to success in their chosen career.

“The aim of the Pop Up Shops is to provide advice and guidance on Apprenticeships, the career opportunities that are out there and also provide a drop-in service to local SMEs who might be considering taking on Apprentices.”

There will be a range of brochures, pop-up stands as well as iPads so people can see the Apprenticeship Vacancy System and the website at the Pop Up Shops.

Independent advice will be available from NAS advisors to provide young people with all the options that are on their doorstep.

Employers interested in taking on apprentices are invited to visit the shops and find out what the process involves.

The Pop Up shops are being held at the Community Shop, 66 Beveridge Way, Newton Aycliffe, DL5 4LD (next to the post office).
