Young woman runs miles for Macmillan
A Boots pharmacy technician is set to run 16 miles across Northumberland and North Tyneside before crossing the finishing line at Manor Walks Shopping and Leisure in Cramlington in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
24-year-old Lauren Barrett, along with a team of runners, are fundraising in memory of her friend Rachel Dodds who died, aged 29, just 17 days after she was diagnosed with cancer.
As the second of three events dedicated to her friend, Lauren will set off from Blyth Friday (August 16 2013) passing through a selection of Boots stores including Seaton Sluice, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, North Shields and Killingworth before arriving in Cramlington.
Lauren said: “A lot of people have told me I’m really inspiring, but it is actually Rachel who is the inspiration. She was loved by so many people.”
Having surpassed her original target of raising £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, Lauren has now received donations in excess of £3,500 after completing the Norse 10k Challenge and she will be running the BUPA Great North Run on September 15 2013.
Bruno Coppola, general manager at Manor Walks, said: “We’re extremely humble to be welcoming Lauren and her team of runners at the end of their long but prosperous journey at the Boots store in Manor Walks.
“She is raising money for a fantastic charity and in memory of her friend, and everyone at Manor Walks wishes her the best of luck in her challenges.”
