Work begins on £1m Sheffield gym expansion
Work has started on a £1m gym expansion project at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport (EIS Sheffield).
Fitness Unlimited is expected to open in October and will feature new cardio facilities including bikes, rowers, treadmills and cross trainers, and the top floor will be home to 35 spin bikes with the virtual cycling product, MyRide.
Sheffield International Venues (SIV), who privately own and operate a number of city facilities, originally invested in the facility in January 2012 and will now introduce 90 pieces of ‘Technogym’ equipment to the venture.
Lorenzo Clark, director of operations for SIV, said: “Work is now well underway ahead of the expected autumn opening. The gym at EIS Sheffield has always been really popular and the new development is about building on this success. The community complex will cater for current and new members, as well as those using Don Valley Stadium, and will set the standard for gyms in Sheffield.
“The wellbeing of the surrounding community is key to SIV’s philosophy for the expansion and the development of an inspirational facility with tailored, value-for-money fitness packages to encourage healthy lifestyles.”
