Lancashire logistics firm bonds with global adhesive group
The Wigan depot of logistics services company Torque is warehousing products for the UK arm of The Gorilla Glue Company, based in Chorley.
Torque’s site in Wigan’s Martland Park is now storing all the adhesives firm’s products and consumables, as well as providing support with packaging.
Services range from separating and sealing individual glue bottles into poly bags, attaching external labels and barcodes, to putting tapes into sleeves before despatch. Torque is also making the client’s floor and display stands, and sending these, in kit-form, to stores.
Included in Torque’s service is O’Keeffe’s Working Hands cream, fast becoming one of The Gorilla Glue Company’s top-selling lines.
Torque is also despatching the Gorilla Glue range - including tape, super and wood glue - to retail and trade distributors, as well as delivering products to independent stockists and fulfilling orders placed via Amazon.
Simon Damp, European sales director of The Gorilla Glue Company said: “We first approached Torque in January, and have been delighted with them since the start. We needed a logistics partner that could deliver to all our customers, from Tesco to corner shops, on-time, correctly and professionally.
“Torque have offered us a true one-stop service and have been great both at understanding the specific needs of our customers and working with us to ensure their exacting standards are met each time. They have given us the confidence to push forward with our growth plans, due to the knowledge that our logistics partner is with us every step of the way and will be supporting us constantly.”
The Gorilla Glue Company, whose headquarters are in Cincinnati, Ohio, was founded over a decade ago after the glue was discovered in Indonesia. The leading adhesives provider in the US, The Gorilla Glue Company is now enjoying rapid growth in the UK each year. Its revenues in the first half of 2013 were twice those of the same period last year.
Vanessa Hope, head of sales and marketing, Torque, said: “Kitting and making floor displays are part of our added value proposition to our clients. We’re really looking forward to working with Gorilla Glue as they continue to grow in the UK.”
The supplier’s Wigan site totals 350,000 sq ft and employs 65 people. Other clients whose business is handled there include: American manufacturer of pre-school and toddler toys Step 2; male gift and accessory maker MenKind; and premium coastal fashion retailer Crew Clothing.
Torque is an independent company with a turnover of £60m employing over 700 people across sites in Leeds, Bradford, Wigan and London. It offers a full logistics service, from origin to end customer, and clients are able to choose which service options they need, when they need them, to suit their own logistical and warehousing needs. Providing over 1.5 million square feet of warehousing capacity, Torque operates globally for clients ranging from large and famous high street names to small internet retailers.
