Artisan cheesemaker to fly Yorkshire flag at The Big Feastival

Artisan cheesemaker, Shepherds Purse of Thirsk, is set to fly the flag for Yorkshire at ‘Jamie Oliver & Alex James present The Big Feastival’ – a two day celebration of food and music at Blur bassist and foodie, James’ Oxfordshire farm later this month.

The dairy will be showcasing a selection of award-winning cheeses at the event. One of just three small cheese producers at the festival – it will be the only one from Yorkshire.

Cheese enthusiasts will get the chance to taste regional specialities such as Yorkshire Blue, Harrogate Blue, Mrs Bells Blue, Buffalo Blue, Yorkshire Fettle, Yorkshire Ryedale and Olde York. The products are a selection of cow’s, buffalo and ewe’s milk white and blue cheeses. Company directors, Katie Matten and Caroline Bell, will not only be looking for feedback on the flavours, but the company’s new look logo and packaging.

Shepherds Purse, which was launched in 1989 by their mother, Judy Bell, has gone through a complete rebrand since the sisters took over day-to-day running of the family business.

Katie said: “Shepherds Purse is being bolder and braver than ever before; we have to have new ideas to remain fresh within the industry while retaining a laser-like focus on quality produce and customer service.”

She added: “The Big Feastival is exactly the sort of place we want to be. It’s youthful, it’s fun and it’s creative.”

Shepherds Purse produces ten award-winning cheeses and has collaborated with Alex James Presents this year to create a new version of Blue Monday, which it claims is delicious and will be re-launched at The Big Feastival.

Around 15,000 people are expected to attend each day of event, which will be held on 31st August – 1st September.

Shepherds Purse will be in the small producer’s marquee.
