Personal injury solictors Fentons merges with Australian firm

Personal injury solicitors Fentons, which has offices in Manchester and London, is merging with Australian law firm Slater and Gordon Lawyers.

Aiming to become one of the UK’s leading consumer law firms, Slater and Gordon is growing rapidly. Last year, it acquired Russell Jones and Walker, another leading name in the fields of Personal injury and clinical negligence.

Confirming the deal, Fentons senior partner Kieran Maguire said: “We are delighted to join Slater and Gordon and form one of the largest claimant law firms nationally.

“Combining our experience of the UK legal market with Slater and Gordon’s experience of class actions, employment work, and consumer rights litigation will open up many new opportunities for all of us.

“Our organisations have much in common; both have forged reputations in fighting for justice for the victims of industrial disease, workplace accidents, and clinical negligence.

“At a time when government reforms are putting greater pressure on claimants and their lawyers, we feel by combining our talents, we will be able to serve our clients and articulate their causes better.”

Neil Kinsella, Slater and Gordon head of UK said the acquisition of Fenton, would add 280 staff to its operations in the UK.

He said: “We have substantially completed due diligence and executed formal business sale agreements and expect completion in October 2013.

“We believe Fentons is an ideal partner to move forward with our plans for strategic growth and to boost our presence in the UK. Both firms are focused on delivering high quality, affordable legal services to every day people.

“This is an exciting time for Slater and Gordon as we move towards being able to bring our legal services and expertise to more people. The expansion of our personal injury team will significantly increase the number of people that we are able to help secure compensation for their injuries and help them get back on their feet.”
