Rapid growth for Wynyard engineering firm
A Teesside engineering firm has increased its workforce by a quarter after expanding its services into the oil and gas sector.
Nortech Group, based at Wynyard near Billingham, has boosted staff numbers to around 80 after launching an oil and gas subsidiary of the company and winning a multi-million-pound offshore deal.
Managing director Bryan Bunn, who founded the company just over two years ago, says the firm has taken on 17 new staff in the last six months alone.
“We’ve secured a number of current long-term contracts, and are growing our range of service and delivery, which is providing further scope for expansion,” he said.
“The initial contracts that we’ve secured are growing in size because we are delivering, which is good.
“We’re also in discussions to bring new clients on board.”
Nordech launched Nortech Oil and Gas towards the end of last year to focus on the successful delivery of brownfield process and utility projects, both in Aberdeen and across the globe.
The expansion followed a multi-million pound contract win with EnQuest last year.
Nortech is working on a number of process simplification projects to extend the life of the Thistle Alpha platform, north of Aberdeen, by another 15 years.
Other wins have included Jersey Gas Co Ltd, located in the Channel Islands, and an international steel manufacturing client.
As well as Nortech Solutions, the group also includes Nortech Staffing Solutions, which specialises in meeting the recruitment needs of the oil and gas sector.
Nordech, which also offers engineering design and project management to the chemical, petrochemical, steel and food industries, was crowned Newcomer of the Year at the North East Business Awards 2013.
Meanwhile, the North East Chamber of Commerce has put the business forward for the Most Promising New Business gong at the national awards.
Nortech Group is made up of Nortech Solutions, Nortech Staffing Solutions, and Nortech Oil and Gas, with its headquarters at Wynyard Business Park.
