North West x-ray specialists win Heathrow contract
North West-based x-ray security and mailroom equipment specialists, Totalpost, have secured a contract to supply a security screening conveyor to Heathrow Airport.
Totalpost secured the business from Malca Amit, who handle freight operations at Heathrow, following a tendering process.
New Department for Transport regulations coming into effect in 2015 require cargo carriers to can items more thoroughly, and Totalpost are hoping to capitalise on this change in the market.
David Hymers, managing director of Totalpost says: “We have happily found a niche in this market through providing high specification X-Ray security screening machinery coupled with a flexible and helpful service.
“In the first half of 2013 we secured over £1m of X-Ray orders and we are continuing to grow the service as we expand into other markets.”
Malca Amit specialise in secure transportation of extremely high valued freight such as jewellery and watches, and ship worldwide.
Talking about the contract and installation, Kevin Miles, operations manager at Malca Amit UK Ltd says: “There is so much regulation regarding international goods transportation, it is extremely important to utilise machinery that is of the highest standard.
“The X-Ray security screening device needed to be compact enough to fit into a small secure area and to have Dual-View to comply with new regulation. Totalpost were able to supply us with a state of the art system which fit this criteria.”
