Sovereign prescribes relief from health care charges

A leading health care cash plan provider is urging the public to “look after the pennies” in the face of spiralling health care costs.

Bradford based Sovereign Health Care has already paid out over £3m in claims during the first half of 2013 with the recently introduced prescription charges benefit now accounting for around 4% of all claims paid and it’s continuing to grow.

“Sovereign introduced the prescription charges benefit in May 2012 and usage of this new benefit is growing month on month. However whilst NHS prescription charges increased by a further 20p in April to £7.85, some customers may still overlook that they can claim 50% back on their prescriptions, or decide not to claim at all for a one-off prescription.

“We encourage our customers to use their health cash plan to help manage living costs, and clearly this new benefit is of great value to our customers who have repeat prescriptions, with up to £48 per year able to be claimed.”

Darren Abbot (50) from York, has claimed over £4k back in the 25 years he has had a Sovereign Health Care cash plan. With a history of high blood pressure, he needs bi-monthly prescriptions and since May 2012, has claimed back half the cost of seven prescriptions for vital medication.

“The health care cash plan is the only way for me to manage the costs of everyday health - contact lenses, specialist dental treatment and now regular prescriptions for high blood pressure medication,” explains Darren, Managing Director of a Leeds-based mail order clothing company.

“The most unexpected area that I’ve benefitted from is ongoing physiotherapy following a broken ankle three years ago. Without getting half the costs of the treatment back it wouldn’t be affordable so I couldn’t carry on playing football in my spare time – which really would be unthinkable!”

He adds: “Quite simply, I’d be £4k worse off without Sovereign’s health care cash plan. Whether we like it or not, there’ll always be the expected costs and those unexpected medical emergencies but for me, having the reassurance of knowing I can afford it, is something money really can’t buy.”
