Miss Macaroon brings ‘Social Screen’ secret cinema to Birmingham
Social Screen is a themed outdoor film screening of ‘Far From Heaven’ to be held in a secret location in Birmingham on 15th September 2013. Filmgoers will be encouraged to dress up in 1950’s attire and ladies will be able to have their hair and make-up done by vintage make-up artists.
Tickets will be available for entry to the park at 6.30pm for those wishing to take macaroon afternoon teas. Entry for film only tickets will commence at 8pm with a local swing band providing entertainment. Afternoon tea hampers will be provided by Yummy Brummies, a network of food social enterprises who help marginalised people.
Following the riots in the summer of 2011, cuts in youth services and some of the highest youth unemployment rates in the country, Miss Macaroon’s Rosie Ginday thought it was imperative for Birmingham’s marginalised youth to have a greater stake in society.
Social Screen aims to give young people stronger bonds with their local communities and experience positive effects of their involvement within society.
Rosie, who trained under Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell, explained:
“Social Screen aims to bring together different parts of local communities to improve community cohesion, reduce isolation and empower communities.”
Profits made from the sale of tickets and hampers will be re-invested in the social aims of training and employment for young care leavers, young offenders and ex-offenders.
Diannah, who is 24 and has previously been on a ‘Macaroons that Make a Difference’ programme, said:
“This programme has given me more skills, confidence and experience. I am now more able to set goals, achieve the goals I have set, am more organised and can plan for the future.”
Miss Macaroon is a community interest company which reinvests its profits to help young unemployed care leavers, offenders and ex-offenders into training and employment through the hand-baking and sale of French macaroons.
