International web experts come to Gateshead

The North East’s biggest web conference returns to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art next month featuring some of the world’s most celebrated design and digital speakers.

DIBI (Design It: Build It) is the North East’s only dedicated conference for website designers and developers and is expected to attract 200 web experts from across the country.

The two day event, which takes place on the 7 and 8 October, will feature a range of speakers and practical workshops covering topics such as mobile app development, sales techniques, motivation and branding.

The conference will open with an afternoon of workshops focussing on ideas and practices which can be implemented into current and future web projects followed by a full day of headline speakers from around the globe focussing on changes and trends in both the design and development of websites and web applications.

Attendees will also be able to network and meet the speakers at the conference opening and closing parties.

The conference keynote will be delivered by Aral Balkan, an award winning speaker who has featured at conferences all over the world to talk about his initiative to champion better design and universally user friendly technology.

Now in its 4th year, DIBI was previously delivered by public sector body Codeworks, but following budget cuts, has been taken over by the team behind tech and culture magazine Epic Times.

Epic Times is a sister company to Sharpe Recruitment founded by Laura and Julie Sharpe in early 2008.

Laura is a well-known advocate of the North East digital community having placed hundreds of developers into companies across the region.

Epic Times, which launched in 2012, is an inspirational resource for the creative and digital sector in The North East providing latest news, reviews, profiles, blogs, jobs and events.

Herb Kim, director of Codeworks, said: “It’s been a genuine honour hosting the delegates, speakers and sponsors who made DIBI such a pleasure over the past three years and I am pleased we have found an organisation that has the people and resources to make sure DIBI can continue to be as great as ever in 2013 and beyond.

“I look forward to collaborating with the new DIBI team from now on.”

Julie Sharpe, Epic Times marketing director said: “We are warmed by the way the digital community have embraced our enthusiasm to keep DIBI alive and with their support this first class conference will provide a positive experience and invigorate delegates practically in their day to day activities.”

David Dunn, chief executive of Sunderland Software City said: “The DIBI conference has an unrivalled reputation for attracting world renowned thought leaders in the field of web design and development.

“This year’s conference looks to follow in this tradition with an impressive line-up of speakers and workshops that will undoubtedly inspire and motivate the region’s web community.”
