Lancashire apprentices start caring career

Ten new apprentices are starting careers in social care looking after older people and people with dementia in Lancashire County Council residential care homes. The new apprentices are aged between 18 and 24 and come from Chorley, Colne, Lancaster, Morecambe, Preston and Skelmersdale. They are working in residential care homes across the county in Lancaster and Morecambe; Adlington, Preston, Skelmersdale, Thornton, Clitheroe, Barnoldswick and Colne. To mark the start of their new roles, the apprentices were welcomed to County Hall by County Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, Cabinet member for children, young people and schools. He said: “This is the first group of apprentices through our new recruitment process and we hope to have many more in the future. As part of their two-year apprenticeship, they’ll get support from experienced staff and training. “We’re pleased to be able to recruit new carers who will help and support others, while providing opportunities for younger people to gain new skills and experience.”
