The Alternative Board in York to establish two more boards

The Alternative Board (TAB) in York and the North Yorkshire region has set in motion a programme of growth following demand from businesses enrolling for its monthly peer-to-peer board membership and individual coaching.

Crucial to this are the signing up of the former dean of the Business School at York St John University and a Sue Ryder executive board member.

Launched in 1990, TAB provides peer advisory boards and training services for business owners, managing directors and CEOs. There are now over 140 franchises operating in the UK, US, Canada, and New Zealand.

TAB UK headquarters are in Harrogate, and the company claims that since its inception, over 13,000 businesses have benefited from its processes through increased profitability, productivity and personal fulfilment.

Owner of TAB York and North Yorkshire, Ed Reid, said: “Business owners know that the best advice they can get is from other business owners and so I’m thrilled that TAB York’s growth is fuelled by demand from regional firms.

Reid reports that since establishing TAB York four years ago, he now chairs four boards involving a total of 30 businesses in the region, with more than 75% of them growing their profits over the past two years. Two of the four current boards have businesses with turnover of over £1 million.

He added “The expansion opens up huge opportunities for other ambitious businesses to benefit from TAB’s distinctive offer.”

Jackie Mathers’ background includes commercial banking and, most recently, Higher Education. As dean of the Business School at York St John University, she held responsibility for strategic management of the School, building partnerships regionally, nationally and internationally.

Julia Sutton-McGough has an established record of leading and delivering strategic projects in the pharmaceutical industry, charity sector and NHS. As an executive board member of Sue Ryder during a time of significant change, she led the strategy development process and has also run her own consultancy business.
