Further growth for prestigious West Yorkshire college

Leeds City College has grown its campus further with the opening of its new Printworks Campus.

The state-of-the-art campus is located on the site of one of the most recognisable industrial landmarks in Leeds, the former Alf Cooke’s Printworks, a grade II-listed building on Hunslet Road which dates back to 1894.

Following the £15 million renovation, the site has become the new home for Leeds City College’s hair and beauty and hospitality, catering and food manufacture departments.

On-site facilities include training kitchens, bakery and butchery teaching facilities, a commercial training restaurant with accompanying deli/bakery and butchery, hair and beauty teaching facilities and commercial salons, and refectory, library and student services.

Plans are also in place to further develop the college’s estate over the next ten years, with departments moving to the Printworks site in later phases.

Principal of Leeds City College, Peter Roberts, said: “This is another momentous day for Leeds City College, staff and students, and we are delighted to be starting a new academic year with the offer of high quality facilities which are modern, fit for purpose, and to industry standard.

“The opening of what is the second new campus in three years, following the opening of Keighley Campus in 2010, demonstrates the College’s commitment to providing learning and teaching facilities which are among the best in the country.”
