New board appointments at PayMatters lead growth plans

Five new appointments to the board of PayMatters, the Wilmslow-based tax, payroll and umbrella company service, is central to the company’s plans to drive a 200% growth during the next 18 months.

Wilmslow -based PayMatters was established in 2008 and has a team of more than 60 providing accountancy services to more than 3,000 freelance contractors working either through its umbrella company or their own limited company.

The appointments are led by Stewart Davis as Group Commercial Director, who joined the company in April 2013. He has more than 20 years’ experience working in the recruitment services sector and is an ambassador for the Institute of Recruiters. He was previously a Regional Director for the REC’s Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP). Stewart is leading the ambitious growth strategy.

Mike Lee officially joins the board as Statutory Sales Director. Mike has been with the company since its formation in 2008 and leads a seven-strong business development team and six new business sign up team.

Peter Langham, who was the company’s first employee, moves from Customer Services Manager to Director. Prior to joining PayMatters, Peter worked in the Diplomatic Service working in various countries.

Jon Biddle moves to become Director of Payroll Services. He has been with the company for four years and is has previously worked in the recruitment and automotive sector.

They are joined by Simon Pearson as Group Financial Director from his former role as Financial Controller. Simon has been with the company for more than four years and his previous experience includes working for KPMG.

Stewart Davis says: “The use of contract and interim workers by private and public sector organisations has grown by more than 40% in the last two years. This is set to continue as the economy improves. All of these elements make me believe that the 200% target is totally achievable.

“The new board is highly experienced and the total time as individuals we have worked in the sector and for the company gives us a deep understanding of the market and the opportunities that exist.

“Our market differentiator is that we have built the business on providing personalised services rather than adopting the call centre model. We will not lose that approach as it is highly valued by the individual contractors, who use our umbrella and limited company services. To maintain that we will grow our team as the business expands.”
