Cameron visits Crown Paints' Darwen base

David Cameron has made a visit to Crown Paints’ Darwen base, where the company had chance to showcase its manufacturing facility.

The Prime Minister gave a Q&A session with Crown staff before touring the base.

His visit was masterminded by communications outfit, MC2, and ties in with the Government’s youth employment and skills agenda, and shined a spotlight on Crown’s apprenticeship scheme.

Crown is one of the largest employers in Darwen and also has operations in Hull.

Claire Tennant, managing director of MC2 commented: “Crown Paints has demonstrated year on year growth for the past 5 years and is undeniably a British success story and national treasure.

“Working with the Cabinet Office and Crown’s team we planned David Cameron’s tour of the manufacturing facility and a ‘Cameron Direct’ question and answer session with Crown staff which was broadcast live on news channels.

Joe Devitt, managing director at Crown Paints commented: “We are extremely proud of our British heritage and it was great to get national recognition for our work and to welcome the Prime Minister to the business.

“He took the time to talk to several of our apprentices and to host the Q&A with our staff which created a great atmosphere and gave the business a real boost and even greater sense of pride for what we achieve here.”
