Tiger Bills roars in to the North East

A new restaurant chain which offers the best of Eastern and Western cuisine is to open its first branch in the North East.

Tiger Bills’ eclectic menu which brings together Tex Mex and Thai food, has led to success for the growing brand which already has branches as far apart as Exeter and Birmingham.

And now Tiger Bills will be opening its fourth eatery at North Tyneside, after two leading entrepreneurs bought up a franchise.

Tiger Bills is set to open its 95 cover restaurant at Whitley Road, Whitley Bay in early October, bringing its unique mix of fusion cuisine to the region for the first time.

Restaurateur Mustaque Rahman and business partner Istiaq Hasan came across the chain and recognised that there was nothing like it in the North East.

“This is a growing brand and we thought it would be perfect for us as there really is nothing else like it,” said Mustaque.

The men have invested more than £80,000 to convert the former Italian restaurant and will be creating more than ten jobs when fully operational.

Both Mustaque and Istiaq are qualified solicitors but have put their legal careers on hold to concentrate on ensuring the restaurant is a success.

Mustaque is no stranger to the hospitality business as his father set up one of the longest standing Indian restaurants in the area – the Kismet on Whitley Road which opened in 1967.

The family also established Takdir Indian Restaurant in Whitley Bay and the Jesmond Tandoori at Jesmond Road, Newcastle, with that expertise now being put to good use in developing Tiger Bills.

Diners can pick from a particular cuisine or mix and match to create a unique dining experience. The Thai menu includes soups, curries and stir fries, drawing their inspiration from Thai street food while the Western-style grill includes everything from ribs to steaks.

The restaurant will also use only Halal meat, with beef or lamb used as a substitute for pork in all dishes.

“Tiger Bills’ appeal lies in the fact that there are two very distinct cuisines for people to choose from,” said Istiaq.

“So we really believe that there will be something to please everyone and that it will offer something that the North East has never seen before.”
