TyneMet College celebrates with local firm Kier as they receive award
Local company, Kier North Tyneside Ltd, were celebrating last week after winning a top accolade at the regional final of the prestigious National Apprenticeship Awards 2013.
Kier North Tyneside Ltd, who are based in Killingworth, scooped the coveted title of ‘BAE Systems Large Employer of the Year’ and Jon Vincent, Principal and Chief Executive of TyneMet College was at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Durham to help them celebrate.
TyneMet College works closely with Kier to deliver tailored apprenticeship programmes to their workforce, as well as delivering apprenticeship programmes in Business Administration, Customer Service, Leadership and Management, TyneMet is delivering a bespoke ‘Aspiring Managers’ apprenticeship programme to trades and office staff at Kier who want to become managers but who are not in a current managerial position. The staff demonstrate their competency by carrying out a variety of community projects.
TyneMet College delivers a wide range of apprenticeship programmes, many of which improve essential skills, such as; people management, customer service and effective communication. This helps to create a workforce that is motivated, appropriately skilled and able to achieve its professional goals.
TyneMet is committed to providing the skills and qualifications that employers and industry need to ensure that they can compete in the global markets of the future.
Jon Vincent, Principal and Chief Executive, TyneMet College, said: “We are thrilled that Kier has received this award. It is clearly evident that Kier invests a great deal in their workforce and we as a college will continue to deliver high quality training to their staff to match this investment.
“At TyneMet we understand that every organisation is unique and has different needs and our mission is to help businesses grow and prosper by providing staff with relevant skills and expertise. Our apprenticeship programmes are designed so that employers can train the apprentices to their working practices and standards, safe in the knowledge that the College is delivering the appropriate technical side of the qualification.
“The College is committed to working in partnership with forward thinking organisations, such as Kier, to help to create more employment opportunities for students on apprenticeship programmes and to develop a highly trained workforce of the future.”
Kier, Regional Director, Mike Furze, said: “We have seen many benefits in growing our own apprentices and with 40 securing employment with us we have watched them personally mature over a period of time and seen their careers progressing. At Kier we see many apprentices eventually gaining management positions, with 100% of our operational management team all having completed apprenticeships in their youth. With this sort of culture you can see the genuine commitment to our staff.”
