Safe delivery for hospital with Reflex infant tagging system

Parents of new-born babies at Wrexham Park Hospital in Slough will enjoy greater peace of mind thanks to new wireless infant tagging and a fully integrated door access security system from Reflex Systems of Rotherham.

Heatherwood and Wrexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust decided to upgrade security at the hospital to provide the best possible protection for infants in its care, while ensuring that it remained user-friendly for staff and parents.

Rotherham-based Reflex Systems was chosen to design and install the system after demonstrating its extensive experience in the healthcare sector and an in-depth understanding of the latest technologies. The company designed a sophisticated wireless operation that is extremely easy for nursing staff to use, backed up by a full service package.

The technology installed by allows nurses to fit both mother and baby with matching RFID (radio frequency identification) tags simply and effectively, delivering 24 hour monitoring. This includes reporting any unauthorised exit through protected doorways, tag removal or loss of signal, via alarm.

The fully integrated system means that any alarms triggered by the infant tags prompt a sequenced door lockdown and live sounding of alarms locally, at the nurses’ stations and at the central security desk.

Reflex Systems went one step further by incorporating site-wide CCTV monitoring with the alarms, giving nursing staff real-time surveillance of the whole area.

Kay Loudon-Bruce, head of security at Heatherwood and Wrexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It was really important to us that the baby tagging route we chose was simple to use, as well as being extremely secure. As nursing staff need to be able to spend their time nursing, we didn’t want them to need lots of technical knowledge to operate it.

“Reflex has delivered technologically sound, robust tagging that means we can trust the system to do its job in providing the best possible protection for mothers and their babies.”

John Pye, managing director of Reflex Systems, added: “Our design employs the very latest, fully integrated technology to ensure we can give complete peace of mind to hospital staff and their maternity patients. It was also important to control access in a practical way that allows operational freedom for personnel, reasonable access to families and compliance to other building management needs.”
