Bruntwood plans New York style office space in Manchester

North West property firm Bruntwood has announced its latest venture in Manchester – a £4.5m redevelopment project to transform Overseas House, on the corner of Deansgate and Quay Street.

It will be given a New York inspired theme and rebranded as Deansgate&Quay, featuring stripped back industrial features and polished concrete. The building will have 52,122 sq ft of open plan office space across six floors, offering individual floor plates of 8,687 sq ft. A courtyard at the rear of the building will also be converted into a basketball court.

Designed by Sheppard Robson, it will offer a “state-of-the-art urban contemporary workspace for Manchester professionals and creative firms”, according to Bruntwood.

Occupiers will have a ‘blank canvas’ on which to draw their own style and corporate identity. Overseas House was built in 1974 and was once home to British Airways, whose Manchester to New York route has provided the inspiration for the design of the new reception space.

Peter Crowther, Bruntwood’s development director, said: “The success we have had with Manchester One and Blackfriars has influenced the design process for this latest redevelopment project.

“There will always be a place for more traditional office space like City Tower - which still remains one the most popular schemes in our portfolio - however increasingly we are seeing business owners from all sectors including professional services and corporates embracing the idea of a much more contemporary and flexible working environment.

Tony O’Brien, partner and design director at Sheppard Robson, added: “This is an exciting project for Bruntwood and we have worked closely with the team to design a new entrance to Overseas House which will provide a distinctive visual marker for the building as well as enhancing the public realm along Quay Street.

“The design provides a fresh approach to office environments and aims to offer opportunities for people to work in new and more flexible ways.”
