£120k football pitch completed
A £120,000 improvement scheme to upgrade a local sports facility in County Durham has now been completed and is open for business.
The project involved the construction of a new ultra-modern third-generation artificial pitch at Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre in County Durham.
The work has been funded by Durham County Council, local councillors, Shildon Sunnydale Community College and Sport England.
Ron Milton, head of PE at the college, said: “This new facility will add tremendous value to the sports programme at the school.”
Ben Kelsey, centre manager, added: “We know that the new pitch will be welcomed and used extensively by local clubs and the immediate and wider community.
“Improvements have also been made to floodlighting, so that the pitch can remain open for longer hours during the winter months and provide more opportunities for local people to use it.”
Options for pitch use will be two 5/6-aside pitches or a full 7-aside pitch. The cost for booking a pitch will start at £26.00.
The facility is being used by local schools during the school day but is available to book by clubs and teams from 5.30pm on a weekday evening and all weekend.
People can find out more or ask about booking the facility by contacting the leisure centre on 03000 266 448.
