Big Eco show returns to Sunderland

An event to help small businesses discover what the green economy can do for them is returning to Sunderland.

Organised by Daisy Green Media & Events and ClimateNE, the region’s climate change partnership, the Big Eco Show will take place on the morning of 17 October at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

It will be themed on connections, conversation and collaboration and is sponsored by Camira Fabrics.

Nicola Jayne Little, managing director at Daisy Green Media & Events, said: “The Big Eco Show offers businesses a new way of doing business through co-operation and collaboration rather than conflict and competition – that’s why the theme is focused on connections, conversation and collaboration.

“Delegates will get the chance to not only showcase their achievements but can also take part in facilitated discussions on green business issues and network with like-minded people.”

Leading sustainability consultant, Gareth Kane of Terra Infirma, will open the Show and welcome delegates. He said: “It is a great honour to be asked to open the Big Eco Show. The green sector is one of the few parts of the economy that is booming and this show is a brilliant opportunity for small businesses to find out how they can be part of that boom.”

The show will also feature a business exhibition of the growing number of green businesses in North East England and the afternoon will see the National Housing Federation host an event on retro-fitting and The Green Deal.

Monica Burns, North East external affairs manager for the National Housing Federation, said: “Housing associations in the North East are at the forefront of using green technology to get a better deal for their residents.

“Social landlords are working hard to ensure their existing properties are more sustainable, fitting solar panels and insulation to bring down energy costs. They are also building new green homes and are eager to work with local contractors wherever possible to bring more much-needed money into the local economy.

“We are delighted be involved in the Big Eco Show, looking at ways our members can work collaboratively with local green businesses to build new ecologically sound homes for local communities.”

Jennifer Robson, ClimateNE, said: “This will be the third show we have held in the last year and each one has been a great success. Ultimately, it is the only place to be for those wishing to gain inspiration and ideas around the green commercial opportunities to assist business growth, improve resilience to the impacts of climate change, and to reduce costs by cutting emissions.”
