Newcastle film company to expand following BAFTA tip

Newcastle-based film producer, Ed Barratt has won recognition from BAFTA.

A panel of industry experts deemed Ed’s first feature film, The Rise, as worthy of a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit, and now plans to grow his business, Hook Pictures.

Ed said: “It’s great to be a part of such a prestigiousscheme and to be recognised alongside some seriously talented individuals including Rowan Athale, writer and director of The Rise.

It can be difficult running a film business from the North East when the industry is so focused on London but I hope this shows what the regions and Hook Pictures have to offer. For me personally this recognition represents a tremendous opportunity to capitalise on the success of The Rise as I grow my production company.“

Hook Pictures has two films slated to enter production in 2014 and now Ed has plans to expand into television production and graphic novel publishing.

Ed added: “With itunes and other video-on-demand providers complementing the traditional cinema and video outlets, the demand for content has never been bigger.

“By growing into television production and graphic novel publishing Hook Pictures will cross-collateralise its strong relationships with writers and other creative talent enabling more stories to reach bigger audiences in different ways; the main focus being like any other business, profit, but with great stories and a bit of glitz and glamour along the way.”
