Nursery group expands into former police headquarters
Warrington-based childcare chain Kids Planet is to turn a former police headquarters into the latest of its nurseries.
The firm has acquired Park Lane police station in Higher Broughton, Salford and will transform the historic building into a nursery for 140 children with 32 staff.
Dating back to the first decade of the twentieth century, the site was originally the northern base of the former Salford City force.
It was put on the market by the Urban Vision private and public sector partnership on behalf of Greater Manchester Police Authority.
Kids Planet was attracted by its convenient location.
Chief executive Clare Roberts said: “We are very excited. We know there is a need for good quality child care and this is a landmark site for us.
“The building will be restored to its former glory.”
The two-storey building comes with almost an acre of land. Kids Planet intend to use this to create two play areas for pre-school children and toddlers.
The independent, family-owned group has announced its ambitions to double in size over the next 18 months, opening more nurseries around the North West as opportunities arise.
Earlier this month, it announced the opening of two more nurseries in Dukinfield and Oldham, bringing its portfolio up to ten branches.
