Biologics boss to speak at Business Exchange
The director of the Centre for Process Innovation’s new £38m National Biologics Manufacturing Centre in Darlington is to make his first speech at Teesside University’s Business Exchange.
In front of an audience of business leaders from across the region Dr Chris Dowle will speak on the work of the new centre.
This will be the first opportunity for the business community to hear the centre’s work to develop, prove, demonstrate, scale up and commercialise new technologies.
Dr Dowle said: “The new facility will support the development of new innovative process technologies and manufacturing routes.
The centre will attract further investment, talent and opportunities into the region and we will play a role in the development and commercialisation of pharmaceuticals into the global marketplace.
“We will provide both large and small companies with open access facilities to prove and scale up their process, therefore reducing risk associated with product development.
“We will build on the UKs competencies in biopharmaceuticals to position ourselves as world leading.”
Dr Dowle’s address follows a successful talk given by Don Randall MBE, former security chief of The Bank of England, on ‘How partnerships between the public and private sectors protect the business and financial sector’.
Don served with the City of London Police from 1969 to 1995 with a specific emphasis on fraud and counter terrorism.
He was in charge of security at the City of London at the time of the Bishopgate bombing by the IRA in 1993, and in August 2008 he became Head of Security at the Bank of England.
He spoke to members of the Business Exchange about crisis management and how strong, effective communication is essential in times of crisis.
He said: “Fast, authoritative action and effective communication is key in times of crisis.”
Mr Randall also spoke on security within businesses.
He stated: “Look at your security risks and make sure you feedback that risk to your employees to be aware of.
“You need your workforce engaged to protect your business.”
