Newcastle's Karol Marketing are on top of the world
North East PR agency, Karol Marketing, is scaling new heights following its appointment to publicise the long-awaited new book by legendary climber Alan Hinkes OBE.
8000 Metres – Climbing The World’s Highest Mountains documents Hinkes’ challenge over 18 years and 27 attempts to reach the summit of the 14 ‘death zone’ mountains, all of which reach heights of 8000 metres or above. The Yorkshireman is the only Briton to have achieved such a feat.
The ‘coffee table’ style book, which features a foreword by actor and mountaineer Brian Blessed, is lavishly illustrated with photographs of unseen landscapes and describes the devastating effect of the so called ‘death zone’ above 7500 metres, where “life expectancy can be measured in hours” and where rescue by helicopter is impossible because it is too high to fly.
Independent publisher Cicerone, which specialises in walking, trekking, mountaineering and cycling guides, tasked Karol Marketing with creating a tailored PR campaign to promote 8000 Metres – Climbing The World’s Highest Mountains in the regional and national media.
Cicerone, which is based in Milnthorpe, on the edge of the The Lake District, was attracted to Karol Marketing because of the agency’s substantial experience in the outdoor sector and its extensive track record in creating award-winning consumer PR campaigns.
Founded in 1992 by Stefan Lepkowski, Karol has worked with a vast range of prestigious outdoor, sport and adventure brands, including Nike, Vango, Kathmandu, Vaude, Bergans Of Norway, Nevica and Asolo.
Sarah Spencer, marketing manager at Cicerone, commented: “Seven years ago, Alan Hinkes approached us with the concept of 8000 Metres – Climbing The World’s Highest Mountains, so to see the idea realised, in such a stunning way, has been very exciting.
“Karol Marketing’s expertise in the outdoor market, plus its international reputation for innovative consumer PR campaigns, made it the perfect choice when we were looking for a partner to support us in promoting the book.”
Stefan Lepkowski added: “It’s a huge honour to be involved in such a prestigious project and to be working with Alan Hinkes and Cicerone on publicising the book.
“8000 Metres – Climbing The World’s Highest Mountains is an inspirational and fascinating account of Hinkes’ challenge to reach the 14 summits, and for a company with strong roots in the outdoor sector, it’s a pleasure to be supporting Cicerone in helping the book reach the audience it deserves.”
