Site manager Mark is best in the North East again

BUILDING site manager Mark Summersgill, who works for David Wilson Homes, has scooped a top award for his quality workmanship – for the second year running.

He was named the North East Regional Award winner in the Pride in the Job competition to find the best-run building sites in Britain.

Mark, 51, who lives in Middlesbrough, has worked in the building industry since leaving school at 16. He is in charge at David Wilson’s Elba Park development at Houghton-le-Spring, where he heads a 30-strong construction team.

He was presented with the award for the Large Builder category at a ceremony at York Racecourse and will now represent the region at the national finals in January.

The father-of-three said: “I’m delighted to win the award again, which is all down to the great team working with me at Elba Park.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, you need the right people working together to build a top quality new home. I strive to run an efficient build that is quality controlled at every point.”

The Pride in the Job Awards, are the most coveted in the industry. They are organised by the National House Building Council (NHBC) which judged more than 13,000 site managers across the UK on all aspects of their work, including technical skill, quality workmanship and customer service.

Geoff Egginton, NHBC Regional Director, said: “Mark is absolutely at the top of his game, building some of the best houses in the UK. The field of competition is huge, so winning is the definitive mark of success. I wish him the best of luck for the national final.”

Mike Roberts, Managing Director at David Wilson North East said: “To win this award two years running is an outstanding achievement by Mark and recognition of his excellent workmanship.

“He thoroughly deserves it for the skills he brings to the job every day and his dedication to building the very best homes. His attention to detail is absolutely first-class.”

Two of Mark’s colleagues, who work for sister company Barratt North East, were also recognised at the regional awards, winning Seals of Excellence.

They are Ian Flintoff, who is in charge at The Limes development in Coxhoe, and Andy Dawson, site manager at Burton Woods, Spennymoor – who was the North East Regional Award winner in 2011.

Mr Roberts added: “Once again our site teams have shown they are among the best in the business. These awards are not only recognition of their excellent workmanship, but give added reassurance to our buyers.”
