Success on a plate for restaurant in new Business Awards

Catalonian restaurant and deli Lunya scooped the major prize at last night’s inaugural Merseyside Independent Business Awards.

The eatery, which is based in Liverpool One, was named Merseyside Independent Business of the Year, having already received an award for growth earlier in the evening.

Among the other winners announced at the awards ceremony, which was held at The Black E in Liverpool, were family-owned property firm Bruntwood, arts and cinema venue FACT and fashion boutique Landbaby.

The Merseyside Independent Business Awards has been launched this year by Morecrofts, one of Merseyside’s oldest independent law firms, to mark its 200th anniversary year. Organisers were last month forced into a late change of venue due to the high demand for tickets.

Helen Broughton, managing partner at Morecrofts, said: “As a seasoned independent business ourselves, we introduced the awards in order to hopefully leave a legacy from our 200th year.

“The response in terms of nominations and ticket sales has been quite overwhelming and it clearly demonstrates that the region is blessed with enterprising business talent.

“Peter Kinsella and his team at Lunya personify the hard work and creativity required to make a successful independent business and they certainly set a benchmark for future winners of the main award.”
