Construction upturn on the level as Nobles reports £8m of new contracts

Liverpool-based Nobles Construction says it sees its £8m-worth of new orders in the last quarter as further evidence that the building sector has turned a corner.

Director Peter Linford says the firm’s annual turnover remains ‘in line with current levels’ in a range between £18m and £20m, but that the difference is in the level of forward orders.

He said: “We’ve got almost £10m of confirmed orders and a very healthy pipeline, but it’s not about chasing the turnover.

“We’re focused on doing the right job for the right client and on pricing jobs carefully. Tender prices remain competitive but the work’s out there.”

Mr Linford credits the firm’s strategic move in to the affordable housing sector with boosting growth, having recently landed contracts with several housing associations in Cheshire, Somerset and Liverpool.

He see this upturn as providing a timely boost to the firm’s acknowledged focus on using a local supply chain and the training of local apprentices.

He said: “Our commitment to local suppliers and local apprentices remains a key driver for our business and it’s nice that we’re able to pass our success down the line.”

Four main contracts account for the £8m in new business:

3 apartment blocks and 27 houses in Priors Hill, Macclesfield for Cheshire Peaks and Plains Housing Trust 8 houses and 24 apartments in Welshmill Lane, Frome, for Yarlington Housing Association A 2 storey extension to the Eric Moore Health Centre in Warrington. Refurbishment and extension to a major regional long-term care centre for its trustees.

The new work follows completion of a number of high profile assignments, including the refurbishment of the historic Queen Anne wing of Croxteth Hall in Liverpool and a stunning new build monastery for the Carmelite Sisters in south Liverpool designed by architects Austin Smith:Lord.
