North East builders celebrate summer of contract wins
One of the region’s largest independent building services contractors has experienced its busiest summer since launching, and aims for a further 25% growth for the remainder of the year.
Hebburn-based Castle Building Services (Castle), has secured three new contracts since the beginning of August, totalling £4.7m.
It follows Castle’s appointment to the station transformation project underway at Newcastle’s Central Station.
These latest contract wins span a number of areas including further education, commercial office space and the waste transfer sectors.
On behalf of BAM Construction, Castle has been appointed to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing services on a project currently underway at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus to construct two three-storey buildings to accommodate the college’s sports and visual and performing arts facilities.
Working with GMI Construction on behalf of Barmston Developments, a joint venture between Wilton Developments and Clugston Estates, Castle is set to return to the Turbine Business Park on a second phase of work on a project to create incubator office space aimed at business start-ups.
On a third contract Castle has been appointed to work closely with contractor Lend Lease on a PFI scheme to create three waste transfer sites in Tyne and Wear. This project will present Castle with a range of logistical challenges associated with operating concurrently across three separate sites.
Castle’s projects director, David Harland said: “Despite trading conditions remaining challenging we have worked hard to secure these new contracts and while we are enjoying a tremendous year so far, we don’t take anything for granted.
“However, the fact that we are winning repeat business and entering new sectors, such as waste transfer is, I believe, down to our reputation for providing clients with exceptional service and an innovative approach to ensure timely delivery on each of their projects.
“Some of the schemes present us with logistical challenges while others present ones of programming, such as a 16-week turnaround time to deliver the new office, hybrid and workshop accommodation in Washington. Looking ahead, our work-winning consistency means that we are on track to record further significant growth for the remainder of the year and benefits our recent high level of recruitment.”
It is anticipated that Castle is to announce a further contract win in the coming weeks believed to be its largest single contract win to date.
