Middlesbrough networking events calls for digital nerds

Digital experts can swap the virtual world for the real at a popular networking event being held in Middlesbrough.

Known as Refresh Teesside, the free event is targeted at people in the creative and digital industries.

Reflecting the growth of Teesside’s digital economy, the monthly gathering has grown from an initial 20 attendees when it launched in February 2012 to more than 120 at the last event.

Now the organisers, friends and digital entrepreneurs Christopher Scott and Ben James, are asking for more people to get involved.

Chris, 29 and living in Stockton, said: “The aim of Refresh Teesside is to bring together the brightest and best creatives from Teesside and the surrounding areas.

“Thanks to Teesside University and DigitalCity Business, Teesside has a growing number of people working in the creative and digital industries so we thought it was important to bring them all together.

“The event is fairly informal. It’s all about exchanging ideas, learning and helping promote businesses and individuals in the region.”

The next event takes place at 6pm on Thursday, October 10 above the Sassari restaurant on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough.

Chris, who when not organising Refresh Teesside works as a developer for Audacious, said: “Being targeted at digital and creative types Refresh Teesside is a little different to your usual networking event and attracts a big group of people with a broad range of interests and specialisms.

“There are usually a couple of short talks followed by drinks, free food and a competition to win something like an iPad.”

People wishing to attend can turn up on the night although pre-registration is preferred. People can pre-register at www.refresh-teesside-september.eventbrite.com
