Orbit submits plans to develop St Helens site

Manchester property firm Orbit Developments has submitted plans to develop a derelict site in St Helens town centre into a shopping and leisure centre.

It follows a decision by St Helens Council to sell a portion of the site it owned to the developer.

The land, at the former St Thomas Square site, off Westfield Street, has been subject to many planning proposals that have fallen by the wayside over the past decade.

Orbit’s application is for permission to build a retail complex that would include a gym, restaurants, shops and parking. The development could bring significant investment to the town centre

Orbit Developments is the commercial division of The Emerson Group and was established in 1971 by Peter Emerson Jones.

It has grown to be one of the country’s largest private commercial property developers and investment management companies, operating across the North West and South East of England and the USA with an extensive portfolio of over 200 buildings and 2,000 tenants across 7.5 million sq ft.
