Acceleris chairman picks up top accountancy award

Acceleris chairman, Nigel Howes, has been named Yorkshire’s Best Finance Director of a plc for his role as group finance director at international multi channel marketing communications provider, Communisis plc, which is headquartered in Leeds.

Nigel was recognised at the annual Finance Director Awards, which celebrate the key contributions and exceptional performance of the region’s top FDs.

He joined Communisis in 2008, as a non executive director and joined the executive team two years later, as strategy and business development director. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed group finance director, where his duties include City relations and liaising with investors and analysts.

Work has focussed on clarifying the identity of the business for improved customer understanding; establishing a stronger base for the business; and repositioning it as provider of personalised customer communication services.

Achievements over the past three years include a six fold increase in market capitalisation and a doubling of profits, against a backdrop of recession.

As chairman of Acceleris since the PR agency launched in 2006, Nigel has been instrumental in forming the robust financial framework and reporting structure for the Harrogate company, which has supported its growth into one of the largest and most successful PR agencies in the North of England.

Acceleris managing director, Peter Davenport, said: “We have seen first-hand the results of Nigel’s expertise and have enjoyed our strongest year to date, in terms of new business wins and fee growth. Nigel’s award for his contribution at Communisis therefore comes as no surprise to us.”

Communisis has sites in Halifax, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester and works across 14 European countries.
